  1. The dawn service every ANZAC day, reminds us of the men and women who have served in Australian and New Zealand armed forces since 1914 when the combined forces landed at Galipoli ion Turkey.
My maternal grandfather served first in the New Zealand forces in South Africa (the Boer war) and in the Australian forces in Europe in the 1st world war.
His three sons all served in the 2nd world war as did my father who spent 3 years as a prisoner of the Japanese, forced to work on the Burma railroad construction.
My family has been fortunate, each member returned alive.
At this time each year we especially remember all those who didn't, hence the theme of the dawn service "Lest we forget"
